Fruits in Savory Dishes

I’m usually not a picky eater, but when it comes to fruits, I sure am. There are some fruits I absolutely love, like berries, Bosc pears, and pineapples, while others, like watermelons and guavas, I just don’t care for. However, with the fruits I do enjoy, I love incorporating them into savory dishes, such as these Cumin-Scented Strawberries & Goat Cheese Bruschettas. This unique appetizer combines the sweet and savory flavors of cumin, strawberries, and creamy goat cheese. It’s easy to prepare and and sure to impress your friends and family!

My love for bruschettas

I LOVE bruschettas! There’s something awesome about biting into a crispy, toasted bread topped with a variety of fresh and flavorful ingredients. Whether it’s the classic Italian tomato and basil or more creative options like like my Indian-style Spiced Brussels Sprouts Bruschettas, bruschettas are always a hit. I often whip them up for easy entertaining or for laid back weekend brunches like my Anda/ Egg Bhurji Bruschettas. They’re quick, easy to put together, versatile, and perfect for any occasion. Each bite offers a satisfying mix of textures and tastes, making them a favorite in my kitchen.

Cumin-scented Strawberries & Goat Cheese Bruschettas

As an avid enthusiast of incorporating fruits with unexpected savory twists, I’ve crafted this recipe that’s simple yet bursting with complex flavors. It combines the vibrant flavors of fresh strawberries macerated in zesty orange juice and aromatic ground cumin, harmoniously layered atop crisp sourdough bread generously smeared with creamy goat cheese. Finished off with some minced cilantro that adds a nice color contrast and a subtle freshness, this bruschetta is a harmonious blend of sweet, tangy, and savory notes.

Cumin & Strawberries Pairing

While I often pair strawberries with black pepper (see my recipes for Strawberry Jam with Black Pepper & Thyme or Strawberry Peppercorn Mojito) I decided to try something different this time by pairing them with ground cumin. Cumin pairs exceptionally well with orange juice, which I use to macerate the berries and the two together complement the rich, creamy and tangy goat cheese. The idea was inspired by one of my own recipes, Cumin Roasted Carrots, where I toss the carrots in a cumin and orange juice marinade.

After sitting in the refrigerator for a few minutes, the result is succulent strawberries bathed in tangy citrus juices and infused with the warmth of ground cumin. These strawberries are then spooned over toasted sourdough slices generously smeared with softened goat cheese. Do give my my Cumin-Scented Strawberries and Goat Cheese Bruschettas a try. They are quick, easy, and simply out of this world with exquisite blend of sweet and savory flavors!
